Alexius Vessey: The Contact Personality

These days they would call me a "channel" or a "transmitter/receiverer" or a "natural philosopher". These days I would not be considered such an abnormality. If I had known other contact personalities when I started hearing from the Civilization of Zenton, I might not have wasted so much time wondering if I was sane or insane. But it does not serve me to wonder, even now. I have long since made my decisions and my commitments to the active guidance of the Supernals. Even though they do not have all the answers (as Lanon says), they have a lot more answers than we have. They have other worlds to compare. Other designs. Other challenges. In short, they provide the "otherness" that takes us up and out of our singular frame of reference, our historic recycle bin, our global myopia.

I have lived long enough now to know how it works. It works imperfectly, but it is less imperfect than it would have been without their guidance.

Supernal perspective acts as a tether, a periscope. It requires a constant reach, an untiring focus. It requires BELIEF. Believing in something other than the obvious and the imperfect is an opportunity for learning new techniques. And their perspective, that "otherness" they bring, is a lure, an inducement, an exhileration that transcends merely temporal attainment. Had I ignored the messages, had I refused to listen, rejected their invitation without hesitation, I might have retired with a decent pension from Knossos University, Professor Emeritus. I might have had a following of admirers I could teach, like Aristotle and Socrates or the Dead Poet’s Society. I would not, however, have participated in the making of a new society, in the taking down notes as to how to put one together, and finding the puzzle pieces that went where and when, in order to reveal the ultimate picture, albeit imperfect, of an ideal society, a human paradise, unsullied Eden -- Havona on Urth.

What do you want to discuss? How may I be of service to you?
