The Root Chakra
- or base chakra, is located at the base of the
spine. Associated with the root chakra is the
color red. Its element is earth. This is the
physical aspect of our being and the survival
chakra; the fight or flight response is an
example.
|
Muladhara or The base or root
chakra, is related to security, survival and
also to basic human potentiality. This centre is
located in the region between the genitals and
the anus. Although no endocrine organ is placed
here, it is said to relate to the inner
adrenal glands, the adrenal medulla,
responsible for the fight and flight response
when survival is under threat. In this region is
located a muscle that controls ejaculation in
the sexual act. A parallel is drawn between the
sperm cell and the
ovum, where the
genetic code lies coiled, and the
kundalini. Symbolised by a lotus with four
petals. |
Spirit of
Intuition
- quick perception, the primitive
physical and inherent reflex instincts, the
directional and other self-preservative
endowments of all mind creations; the only one

lower orders of animal life and the only one to

play a valuable role in
digestion, the conversion of food matter
into energy for the body. Symbolised by a lotus
with ten petals. |

The Third Eye –
The sixth
chakra is often called “the third eye” as it is
located in the front at the center of the brow.
Associated with the third eye chakra is the
color violet or indigo. There are no elements or
physical senses associated with the sixth or
seventh chakras because these two chakras are of
the higher planes. The third eye chakra is
sometimes considered the sight chakra but the
“insight chakra” might be a more appropriate
name. The third eye chakra is associated with
consciousness of a Higher Being and the
potential of soul manifestation, sometimes
termed our Higher Self.
|
Ajna or The
Third eye, is linked to the
pineal gland. Ajna is the chakra of time and
awareness and of light. The pineal gland is a
light sensitive gland, that produces the hormone
melatonin, which regulates the instincts of
going to sleep and awakening. It has been
conjectured that it also produces trace amounts
of the psychedelic chemical
dimethyltryptamine.
Centered
between the physical brow and the back of the
head is the pituitary gland, considered the
master gland. Symbolised by a lotus with
two petals. |
Spirit of Worship
- the
religious impulse, the first differential urge
separating mind creatures into the two basic
classes of mortal existence. The spirit of

this is the chakra that opens to the divine
spark, where Stillness takes place and balance
is restored.
|
Sahasrara
or The crown chakra , is said to be the
chakra of consciousness, the master chakra that
controls all the others. Its role would be very
similar to that of the
pituitary gland, which secretes hormones to
control the rest of the endocrine system, and
also connects to the
central nervous system via the
hypothalamus. The
thalamus is thought to have a key role in
the physical basis of
consciousness. Symbolized by a lotus with a
thousand petals. |
Spirit of
Wisdom

inherent tendency of all moral creatures towards
orderly and progressive evolutionary
